Descrizione : West Africa, Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire, We or Dan peoples, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A fantastical and slightly surreal wooden maskette of an anthropomorphic and zoomorphic head with a human hand extending from the forehead as the trunk. The wrist is wrapped in a vegetal twine cord. The elongated head has a pair of raised, circular eyes, an open mouth with long lower lip, and a pair of tusks in turned at the sides. The combination of animalistic features and human might be an embodiment of bush spirits. Size: 8 L x 4 W (20.3 cm x 10.2 cm) Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
