Descripción : West Africa, Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire, We or Dan peoples, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A fantastical and slightly surreal wooden maskette of an anthropomorphic and zoomorphic head with a human hand extending from the forehead as the trunk. The wrist is wrapped in a vegetal twine cord. The elongated head has a pair of raised, circular eyes, an open mouth with long lower lip, and a pair of tusks in turned at the sides. The combination of animalistic features and human might be an embodiment of bush spirits.
