Description : Roman Period, 30 BC-323 AD. A carved limestone head of a priest with shaven head, finely modelled facial features, lined forehead, mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Andrews, C. and van Dijk, J.(eds), Objects for Eternity, Egyptian Antiquities from the W. Arnold Meijer Collection, Mainz, 2006, no.3.55, for a similar priestly head. 1.8 kg total, 20cm including stand (8). From an important London collection, acquired from J.J. Klejman of Madison Avenue, New York, USA, in the 1960s, this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.10115-167434.
