Description : **First Time At Auction** Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, probably 26th Dynasty, ca. 662 to 525 CE. A wonderful, mold-formed faience amulet depicting the dwarf deity Bes. Enveloped in a lustrous, blue-green glaze, the ancient figure stands nude with bowed legs flanking his lengthy phallus and hands held to his hips. His squat face presents almond-shaped eyes beneath arched brows, a petite mouth, and a pointed chin, all flanked by a pair of large ears. Bes was a protector of the household and warded off all malevolent things, making him a popular talisman for many Egyptians to carry. Size: 0.5 W x 0.8 H (1.3 cm x 2 cm) Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
