Beschreibung : **First Time At Auction** Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, probably 26th Dynasty, ca. 662 to 525 CE. A wonderful, mold-formed faience amulet depicting the dwarf deity Bes. Enveloped in a lustrous, blue-green glaze, the ancient figure stands nude with bowed legs flanking his lengthy phallus and hands held to his hips. His squat face presents almond-shaped eyes beneath arched brows, a petite mouth, and a pointed chin, all flanked by a pair of large ears. Bes was a protector of the household and warded off all malevolent things, making him a popular talisman for many Egyptians to carry.
