Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab pendant covered in blue-green glaze. The topside features insectile characteristics such as a convex wing carapace, a slender head with a gently frilled clypeus, and sinuous legs tucked beneath the body, all above a suspension hole oriented lengthwise through the body. The underside is inscribed with a series of hieroglyphs that when translated read, (The Sun God) Re is lord of life(?) with recognizable glyphs including a royal uraeus cobra and an ankh.
