Descripción : Egypt, Third Intermediate, Dynasties 21-25, ca. 1069 to 664 BCE. An exquisite Egyptian alabastron, hand carved from translucent, white alabaster - hence the name, with a characteristically elongated body, twin ear-shaped projections/handles or lugs on each side of the body, and a flattened flared rim. The central spout hole opens to a wide and hollow interior. Quite simply, this piece is jaw dropping. The fact that the ancient artisan could create a pure abstract form from stone demonstrates a remarkable command of the medium and technique. Clearly the Egyptians were masterful sculptors!
