Descripción : Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A hand-carved steatite pendant depicting a crocodile standing atop an integral ovoid plinth. The reptilian creature presents with a slightly hunched body atop a quartet of nubbin legs, a slender but powerful tail, and a tapered head with bulging eyes and an incised snout. A suspension hole is drilled widthwise through the center of the body, and the green-gray hue of the steatite perfectly complements the creature's natural coloration.
