Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A hand-carved steatite pendant depicting a crocodile standing atop an integral ovoid plinth. The reptilian creature presents with a slightly hunched body atop a quartet of nubbin legs, a slender but powerful tail, and a tapered head with bulging eyes and an incised snout. A suspension hole is drilled widthwise through the center of the body, and the green-gray hue of the steatite perfectly complements the creature's natural coloration. Size: 1.26 L x 0.32 W x 0.4 H (3.2 cm x 0.8 cm x 1 cm) Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
