Tree Of Life ,executed circa 1972
Note : Besides being an art centre synonymous with the development of printmaking and the exposure of local South African artists in KwaZulu-Natal, Rorke’s Drift developed a weaving workshop to help provide employment for local women. A Swedish loom was installed and operational by the mid-1960s. As students were encouraged to move away from geometric Zulu pattern in their designs, a more figural tradition, based on allegorical or everyday narrative, was established.
