Note : This scene depicts the funeral of Professor Fransie Malherbe (1894-1979), a respected literary figure who taught Dutch - Afrikaans at the University of Stellenbosch from 1930 to 1959. Jan Rabie, Marjorie's husband, was a student of Malherbe. Marjorie and Jan can be seen in the foreground of the painting.
