Note : The name and address inscribed in pencil on the reverse of the work indicates that it previously belonged to the First Chief of the Worcester Fire Brigade, William (Bill) Harris (1871-1952) and his wife, Rene Harris, who lived at 33 Stockenstrom Street, Worcester. Their house has since been demolished to make way for the building of a branch of the Shoprite supermarket chain. Bill Harris was a legendary and well-loved local figure and is considered the 'Father of the Worcester Fire Brigade'. Harris Street, the main street in the suburb of Meiring's Park in Worcester, was named after him. The Harrises are both buried in the cemetery of the St James the Great Anglican Church in Worcester.
