Note : A similar self portrait, dated 1972, is illustrated in J. Fox 2000 (p.125)."Krige painted a large body of self-portraits during the Montagu period. The artist is usually featured with a blue-grey background and blue shirt, and always has the same watchful, oblique expression. There is perhaps vulnerability here, certainly deep introspection.
