Chéri Samba (Congolese Drc, Born 1956) Kin Kamundele (Unframed)
Provenienza : [Propriété non datée]
- The collection of Mr Jan Hintjens, Belgium; Gaia Sale, December 2007, Lot 192; A private collection
- The title Kin-Kamundele can be understood as 'Kin, the place of the white people,' referring to Kinshasa seen through the presence or influence of European lifestyle
- In this work, Chéri Samba captures lively snippets of everyday speech in Kinshasa, mixing Lingala, French, and urban slang to portray the rhythms of daily life
- The dialogues about money, work, consumption, and mistrust reflect the economic dynamics and social interactions of the city
- References to selling goats, rising prices, and finding new ways to make a living coexist with scenes of leisure, spending, and suspicion
- Altogether, the painting offers a vivid, humorous, and sharply observant snapshot of contemporary urban life in Kinshasa
- The translations of the text are as follows: Two men in the background: Ozo tika yango na poussière boye. 'You're leaving that in the dust like that?' Couverture ekoma talo mingi na magasin
- Soki okosomba te, kende na yo. 'Blankets have become very expensive in the shop
- If you're not going to buy, then go on your way.' Two men in the foreground: Pona nini bino nyonso bokomi kaka koteka cabri?
- Misala mosusu ezali te? 'Why have you all started selling goats?
- Aren't there any other jobs?' Oyo ezali moyen de vivre ya sika po na biso ba jeunes
- Ezalikaka libanga vieux. 'This is a new way of making a living for us young people
- It's tough, man.' The scene on the left displaying a boy and a girl drinking: Petite, videz verre tolia coin. 'Girl, finish your drink, we're going to spend some money / enjoy ourselves.'('Come on, finish your drink, we're going to have fun and spend.') Te, nakomela te namoni neti otielingai roche. 'No, I don't drink
- It looks like you put something suspicious in my drink.'
