Framed and matted, 23 x 29, lithograph, 15.5 x 22. David Roberts, Scottish painter. By 1832 Roberts had established a reputation as an important architectural artist. In 1838, Roberts travelled to Egypt and produced a great number of sketches. He developed these into watercolors, which were the basis for the series of 247 lithographs called The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt & Nubia, published between 1842 and 1849. Llithographs by Louis Haghe, who would figured prominently inRoberts' success. The Belgium-born Louis Haghe is the un-sung hero of the art works. Haghe followed Roberts's original sketches closely.
