Learn more at aqfoundation.org ** West Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, Baule peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine set of 5 hand-carved wooden slingshots with forked heads and sturdy handles. One of the weapons features a single abstract anthropomorphic maskette on the obverse face of the handles, and another 3 slingshots have at least 1 pair of maskettes on their respective handles. The last slingshot features a charming zoomorphic creature - perhaps a leopard - standing up atop the handle, and its incised details are further accentuated with bright red applied pigment.
