A mixed group of glazed composition amulets from the collection of Dr. Dudley Collings comprising: a standing figure of Thoth in ibis-headed form, mounted on a wooden stand, a pale blue fly with veined wings on a rectangular base, a deep blue 'pillow' or headrest with pierced lug, mounted on card in an old collector's envelope with handwritten notation 'Ancient Egyptian / Amuletic Pendant / in rich deep blue glaze / in the form of the pillow of Isis / 22nd Dynasty / A rare + fine little specimen from the Hilton Price collection 3/-', a pale blue lotus flower mounted on an index card, in an old collector's envelope with handwritten notation 'Ancient Egyptian / A very pretty little / Lotus Petal seal / in glazed faience / B.C. 900 / nice colour / from the Page collection / Quite perfect. 2/6'. 19 grams total, 8-54mm (1/4 - 2 1/4). From the collection of Dr. Dudley Collings, Suffolk, UK, thence by descent, previously in the collections of Hilton Price and Page in the 19th century. Dr Dudley Willis Collings (1870-1955) was the first curator of the Southwold Museum and the town's doctor. Collings's son and daughter-in-law were close friends of Eric Blair (George Orwell) who shared their interest in anthropology. The F.G. Hilton Price collection was published in London in 1897 in a dedicated illustrated volume entitled A Catalogue of the Egyptian Antiquities in the Possession of F.G. Hilton Price. [4]
