Descrizione : circa 1st century b.c.-1st century a.d. The goddess wearing a chiton and a long mantle with overfold, pinned on the right shoulder, the ends cascading down in Archaistic zigzag folds, over this she wears a semi-circular aegis with a facing gorgoneion at her chest, the edges fringed at front and back with snakes, holding a scroll in her raised left hand, emphasizing her role as protectress of intellectual life, her right arm bent up sharply at the elbow, perhaps originally holding a spear, her wavy hair with a center-part, with a long mass hanging in back, wearing an Attic helmet with stephane-like frontpiece backed with radiating spikes or snakes 9.3/8 in.
