Descrizione : Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, 1479 to 1401 BCE. A gorgeous turquoise faience pendant depicting a lion head in extremely high relief strung with ancient black and white banded agate barrel beads interspersed with other ancient beads including dozens of stone disc and rounded beads, one red carnelian, one made of faience, and a few deep blue and purple round glass beads. The lion head symbolizes Sekhmet, an important goddess in the Egyptian pantheon, who is associated with war, healing, and the sun. A fabulous example of wearable art, with wonderful provenance as well!
