Notes : "There are water cultures, and there are highland cultures. The highland cultures are more likely to be Confucian. The water cultures, such as Hinduism, are in flux, marked by the continuous emergence and passing of the world. Marlene Dumas belongs to the water culture. Her temperament is like that of a flood. Her painting penetrates into the tiniest cracks. She transforms, liquefies, gently and forcefully.
