Notes : Employing a cool palette and an impressionistically painted surface of colour and mark, Bosch conjures the surging undulations of an ocean stirred up by a powerful wind. It is upon this surface that several yachts, with colourful spinnakers, crest and tack jauntily between the coastal foreground and the horizon in a competitive aquatic ballet. These dynamic, wind-filled sails appear to ascend vertically, within a largely horizontal composition and, when transposed against a distant diagonally patterned sky, generate a powerful pictorial dynamism. This work was commissioned from the artist by the current owner in 1995 and is a testament to the artist's aesthetic mastery of composition and technique.
