Description : Ancient Egypt, probably late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Periods, ca. 1290 to 30 BCE. A skillfully carved and polychromed wooden hand from a larger sarcophagus cover. The hand presents a grasping pose with carefully delineated fingers, and there are nice remains of red, black, and yellow pigmentation. Note that a section of the original dowel remains in one of the perforations on the verso. An intentionally drilled hole between thumb and fingers leading to the clenched pinky finger suggests that this figure once held an implement. A wonderful piece of funerary art from the ancient Egyptians. Size: 5.5 W x 3.625 H (14 cm x 9.2 cm), 5.75 H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand.
