Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved limestone panel fragment of a relatively rectangular form bearing a column or portions of 2 lines of hieroglyphs. Based on the planar left side of the fragment, this example was perhaps part of a larger stele or wall carving at one time. When translated, the top hieroglyph reads, coming out, and the 3 hieroglyphs on the bottom read, to royal house. The fragment is displayed within a modern wooden frame for display purposes. Size (panel fragment): 1.7 W x 4.5 H (4.3 cm x 11.4 cm), (display frame): 6 W x 9 H (15.2 cm x 22.9 cm) Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, ex-BC Galleries, Armadale, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, ex-Pavel Kucera collection, Australia, acquired 1960s All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. Condition report : This is a fragment of a larger composition as shown. Limestone fragment is ancient, wooden display frame is modern. Abrasions and minor softening to some hieroglyphs, with some earthen accumulation on surfaces and within some recessed areas. Hieroglyphs are still clear and legible. Frame backing has a couple of stable fissures and old packing tape along bottom. Back of frame shows handwritten translation of hieroglyphs. Fragment is adhered within frame and cannot be removed.
