Consulter la cote et le prix de Rare Egyptian Wood And Bronze Mirror

Description : Egypt, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664-525 BCE. Rare example with original wooden handle supporting the bronze mirror (unusual to have wood survive in such wonderful condition). The bronze would have been polished and reflective in its original condition. It is now tarnished as is normal. The form of the ancient Egyptian mirror changed a little from its first appearance in the Old Kingdom (about 2613-2160 BCE) and consisted of a polished disc of bronze or copper, attached to a handle. The reflective surface was interpreted as the sun disc, because of its shape and shiny qualities. Normally, the handle of the mirror was of wood, metal, or ivory. The handle could be surmounted by the head of Hathor. She was particularly associated with the mirror, which had connotations of sexuality and rebirth. Hathor was one of the most famous goddesses and known as the Great One of Many Names - so numerous that she was important in every area of the life and death of the ancient Egyptians. Mounted on a custom built Lucite stand. Measures 13Provenance:From an old New Jersey collection.Authenticity GuaranteedThe starting price is the price at which the piece can sell.
