Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful and rare example of a mold-formed paste glass falcon amulet standing with massive raptorial feet atop an integral rectangular plinth, all in matte blue hues. The majestic avian creature presents with its chest puffed out, wings held tightly to its breast, and with wing tips crossed over its tail. Its squat head protrudes up from its shoulders and displays a pair of almond-shaped eyes that flank a petite beak. A suspension hole drilled through the chest indicates that this was worn at one time as a protective amulet - perhaps evocative of the falcon god Horus - or was sewn into the linens of mummy wrappings.
