Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A hand-built faience seal ring exhibiting a rectangular face with 2 columns of inscribed hieroglyphs, all covered in attractive blue-green glaze. Emanating from behind the face is an integral ring shank that was worn on a finger or was perhaps suspended from a necklace cord. Seal rings like this example typically bore the name of its owner with a short message intended to designate ownership of an item to that individual. While untranslated, the displayed hieroglyphs were perhaps intended as a means of bestowing good luck, good health, or a lengthy life upon its owner.
