Description : Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1650 to 1570 BCE. A leaf-shaped bronze dagger blade with twin rivets at the top, a low mid-rib, and triangular low-relief narrow lines along the face of the blade. This type of dagger would have had a wooden handle with a stone pommel, based on findings in graves excavated from this period. Bronze replaced copper during this time, and the mid-rib was developed specifically to strengthen blades, shorter swords and daggers become much more common in this period. These technological changes seem to be geared towards producing weapons with better piercing power. They are associated with the Canaanites (the Biblical name for the group of people settled in the southern Levant) and also with the Hyksos, the people from Western Asia who seized control of Egypt.
