Consulter la cote et le prix de Ogoni African Ram Mask

Description : Nigeria, West Africa, Early 20th century. Wooden mask with painted, slightly encrusted surface, aged patina. The Ogoni people live in the Niger river Delta area of Nigeria. They are primarily farmers and carvers of puppet-like figures and small masks. Most zoomorphic examples are mainly used at Christmas time and for funerals. This fine example is an interesting, old one showing an unusual coloration achieved with oil-based paints introduced into Africa by Europeans in the early colonial years. The patina overall is lovely, and the mask shows signs of much use and age. 8 H. Custom stand. Provenance: Old private Florida collection since the 1980's All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
