IThe Ngbaka people live in the northern Democratic Republic of the Congo, neighboring the Ngbandi, Ngombe, and Gbaya ethnic groups.
Characteristic of nearly all Ngbaka masks is the mirroring of a scarification patterns in the form of a vertical ridge over the forehead and nose. According to Ngbaka tradition, masks were used at circumcision and initiation rites.
