Description : A group of 10 lead seals from Fayum, Egypt. 5th-7th Century AD, including several Byzantine examples with facing busts of Christ, Saints of the Virgin and a few Roman types with busts of deities such as Roma. The Roman pieces were probably tesserae or tokens, the Byzantine pieces are bullae for sealing documents and such. Largest 25mm in diameter. Ex New York private collection.
