Description : Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. An enormous fragment from an ushabti figure, mold-formed from faience and covered in a pale turquoise-hued glaze, with details brought forth with applied black pigment. The fragment depicts the mummiform legs of a standing shabti - from the waist down to roughly the ankles - flanked by two large cats, one full and one partial. A dark latticework pattern adorns the verso of the legs, and black pigment comprises a broad usekh collar worn by one cat. The mummiform pose of the figure suggests this figure perhaps represents a particular pharaoh or maybe just an effigy of a deceased individual. Size: 3.375 W x 5.125 H (8.6 cm x 13 cm).
