Description : Graeco-Roman Period, 332 BC- 395 AD. A wooden rectangular sarcophagus panel, likely formed of cedar, covered in gesso and painted with a long depiction of a cobra, wearing a sun-disc with plumes to indicate its divine nature. These attributes are those of the goddess Wadjet, a protective deity of Lower Egypt, commonly seen within funeral contexts. On the side, a panel of hieroglyphs translated as follows: Renenutet- Throne - Mistress - great - may she be given - heart - god. The item is accompanied by a report from Simone Musso, consultant curator for the Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition. Size: L:100mm / W:600mm , 685g Provenance: Property of a central London gallery, formerly in P.H.G. collection, Ex. private NYC collection pre-2000.
