Description : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reigns of Amenhotep III to Akhenaten, ca. 1360 to 1330 BCE. A lovely example of a hand-built pottery ushabti of slender presentation who stands in mummiform atop fused legs and feet. Painted with a white ground and embellished in red and black pigment, the figure is shown holding a pair of hoes in unfolded hands that are placed atop the chest. The slightly downcast visage is comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, and tapered cheeks, all framed within the lappets of the tripartite wig, the top of the wig shows how it used to be decorated with a powdery blue pigment. A column of black hieroglyphs down the front of the legs reads, The Osiris, Ba-Sha-Wer, perhaps a foreign name written in Egyptian.
