Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience figure depicting Pataikos, the bow-legged dwarf god meant as a protector deity and a mitigator of violent natural forces. The squat figure stands nude with thick legs bearing a vertical central cleft and holds both hands to his protruding hips. His head showcases almond-shaped eyes, an upturned nose, puffy cheeks, cupped ears, and full lips beneath his bulging, slightly plateaued forehead, and a perforated suspension loop behind the neck bears four vertical striations. Remains of blue-green glaze are visible across the figure and make for an attractive presentation. Condition report : Professional restoration to base and feet with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and minor nicks to body and head and light fading to original glaze. Nice preservation to facial details as shown.
