Description : African art. Ivory Coast- Dan Mask Hard wood with glossy patina, black pigment and metal. Signs of use.. A beautiful and honest Dan mask of the Deangle type, characterised by slit eyes framed in aluminium. The metal used helps to place this mask in a time space that is not particularly old, but this mask with its full and balanced volumes does not appear to have been artificially aged in any of its parts. The patina of the black paint with which it has been repeatedly painted contains small traces of red, the legacy of who knows what history, and on the back it is skilfully sculpted by man and beautifully polished by wear and time. The many uneven holes surrounding the face, some of which are still inhabited by insects, suggest that she was once dressed for dancing, and even her shortcomings, such as the ritual iron on her forehead, contribute to testifying to her honesty.. Cm 15,50 x 24,00 x 7,00.
