Consulter la cote et le prix de Congo Carved Wood Scepter, 1960
Description : This is a scepter from the Dominican Republic of the Congo created in the early to mid 20th century. Only used by chiefs these utilitarian sculptures were signs of power. This scepter showcases that power by depicting the chief, standing atop the side turned head of lower figure whose hands are tied and bound. Perhaps such depiction served as a warning to all who had an audience with the chief who held this particular scepter!, Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early, 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. This is a beautiful cultural artifact from the Congo that will make an excellent addition to any, cultural art collection. Piece is in good condition for its age, showing signs of use with a very nice patina.
