Description : Clay Possibly Pi-Ramesses / Qantir, Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th to 20th Dynasty Mould for an amulet of the goddess Hathor Dimensions: 3 x 3.5 x 1.1 cm (width x height x depth) Provenance: Private Collection Bruno Wertz Scientific research: Dr. Jan Moje, Free University of Berlin (see references below) This mould originates from Egypt (possibly Pi-Ramesses / Qantir) and dates to the New Kingdom of the 19 υ th to the 20 υ th Dynasty (1292-1070/69 BCE). The mould was used to form a small amulet of a striding cow with sun disk and crown with horns. This is a form of appearance of the goddess Hathor, who was mainly the goddess of the heaven of the west and mother goddess. After the moulding in quartzite mass und before the second, final firing process, a ring pearl of the same material was attached to wear the piece as a chain link. Such moulds of fired clay were used to make amulets of quartzite, so-called faience, in larger quantities. The little mould for an amulet of the goddess Hathor is in complete condition with normal traces of age. The clay is covered with a dark brown patina. There is an antique breakage on the right of the exterior, as well as some cracks arousing from the process of creating the mould. The dimensions of the mould are 3 x 3.5 x 1.1 cm (width x height x depth).
