Description : African Tribal Art: Dan People, Liberia: Anthropomorphic Mask with a combination of abstracted human and bird attributes. Carved wood, the eyes inset with bone, and the perimeter of the face adorned with coils of fabric-covered grasses, cowrie shells, conical and round iron bells, raffia braided rope, and other decorative materials. Early-mid 20th century.
Bird masks and others with long, bird-like features are used in festive ceremonies.
