Anthropomorphic Bateba figures like this one were commissioned and used among the Lobi for the protection of the owner, his home and family. Characterized by obvious cubist volumes, this small sculpture was secured on a plexiglass base probably in the end of the last century, and through this transparent material an inventory number written in pencil on the sole of one foot can be seen..
