Description : **First Time At Auction** West Africa, Mali, Timbuktu region, Middle Niger civilization, ca. 14th to 18th century CE. A brass bracelet cast via the lost wax technique. The outer rounded side is covered with slightly raised encircling bands and a set of vertical bands. West Africa prior to European contact in 1500 CE, already had a rich tradition of metallurgy, smelting technology possibly established by 1500 BCE. Timbuktu and the southern city of Jenne (Djenne) were strategic centers of trans-Saharan and Silk Road trade in Mali during Medieval times.
