The collector became fascinated and intrigued by Oceanic Art while on a trip to New Zealand and Australia as the physician of the US Roller Skating Team in the late 1980's. On this trip, he made his first purchases of native Oceanic art from a German couple who owned Galleries Primitif in Syndey, Australia. The dealers had visited and acquired from Papua New Guinea's primitive tribes for decades. After assembling his collection, it was shipped to Atlanta, Georgia. The High Museum provided advice for best display practices for these objects. The collector is now at the stage of downsizing, which necessitates the disposition of his collection.
