Description : A group of 2 ancient terracotta figures, c. 2nd Century BC-3rd Century AD. The first a tall Roman figure of a robed female with arms to her side, H: 27.3 cm. Repaired at the neck and head appears to be mismatched with the body. The second a Greek figure of a man with curled hair wearing either a phrygian cap or a pileus, H: 16.6 cm. The piece is only the upper half of the original and is broken off around the midsection, but is otherwise undamaged. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
