Descripción : Egypt, Middle Kingdom to beginning of Late Dynastic Period, 12th to 26th Dynasty, ca. 2040 to 664 BCE. Two lovely miniature amulets from ancient Egypt, one a scarab and the other a scaraboid. First is a scarab made of sapphire-blue paste with finely-detailed beetle-form features on the topside. The bottom displays a seated depiction of Horus, which also doubles as the symbol of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III (also known as Amenophis III, Amunhotep II, or Nebma'atre). Second is a faience scarab with a deep blue glaze meant to imitate lapis lazuli. The topside has faded insectile features, and the bottom exhibits an indiscernible pharaoh sitting on his throne. Both miniatures were likely protective amulets meant to be worn by the living. Size of largest (scarab): 0.55 L (1.4 cm). Provenance: ex-Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, ex-HD-Enterprise, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry, Cairo, Egypt, collected in the 1950s All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
