Descripción : Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful gathering of three faience button scarabs, each with an integral perforated suspension loop across the underside. The two larger buttons are either a pale or dark hue of blue-green, and the smallest scarab has a pistachio-green color. Each button has a light glazed surface which helps to accentuate their insectile features. Ancient Egyptians believed scarabs had an inherent regenerative power, so mummies would oftentimes have such scarab buttons sewn into the lining of their funerary wrappings in order to facilitate these processes in the afterlife. Size of largest (blue-green): 0.625 L (1.6 cm).
