Descripción : Roman, North Africa, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A mold-formed redware pottery oil lamp of a sizable form with a circular base, rounded walls, a planar shoulder, a tab-shaped handle, a narrow fill hole, a wide neck channel, and a large wick spout. The shoulders are impressed with a repeating, interlocking curvilinear motif with small raised dots in the ovoid centers. The slightly-recessed tondo bears a series of drooping horseshoe-shaped forms connected to one another, and a slender ring around the fill hole bears small concentric circles and six pointed triangles. A lovely example from the furthest reaches of the Roman Empire! Size: 5.125 L x 3 W x 2.125 H (13 cm x 7.6 cm x 5.4 cm). Condition report : Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age and use, notable char marks to wick spout, very minor nicks to handle, body, and base, with fading to low relief motifs, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
