(i)-xxxi (1), (1)-411, (1) pp. Illustrated with 51 engraved plates. Contemporary mottled brown French calf, scuffed, corners bumped and blistered, spine and joints rubbed, spine ends worn away with bands exposed and loosening, stamped in gilt, edges stained red, marbled endpapers. Plates 22 and 23 moderately to heavily spotted, other scattered light foxing, spotting to fore-edges, some text margins discolored, minor dampstaining to rear endpapers, small old ink markings on endpapers. Small library label on front paste-down. Brunet III 980. Depicting costumes and other features of the material culture of ancient peoples, including the Egyptians, Hebrews, Greeks, Gauls, Germans, Armenians, Persians, Assyrians, and others.
