Descripción : Egypt, Ptolemaic to Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 332 BCE to 2nd century CE. A mold-formed faience pendant depicting a resting ibis covered in matte blue glaze. The relaxing bird rests its plump body atop bent, sinuous legs, displays incised feathering on each wing, and has a slender, curved beak emanating from its teardrop-shaped head. The ibis is the bird traditionally associated with the ibis-headed Thoth, god of writing, mathematics, and the moon.
