Descripción : Egypt, Ptolemaic to Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 332 BCE to 2nd century CE. A mold-formed faience pendant depicting a resting ibis covered in matte blue glaze. The relaxing bird rests its plump body atop bent, sinuous legs, displays incised feathering on each wing, and has a slender, curved beak emanating from its teardrop-shaped head. The ibis is the bird traditionally associated with the ibis-headed Thoth, god of writing, mathematics, and the moon. Size: 0.93 L x 0.4 W x 0.75 H (2.4 cm x 1 cm x 1.9 cm) Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
