Descripción : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. A beautiful scarab that is hand-carved from vermilion-hued carnelian and displays the pharaoh Thutmose III on the flat base. The top of the pendant features characteristic insectile features such as a petite head, sinuous legs, and a folded wing carapace that are all finely preserved. Exhibited on the base is a striding image of Thutmose III who wields a curved khopesh in his right hand and a lengthy pole or club in his left. A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body and enables this fine example to be worn on a bracelet or necklace.
