Descripción : Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A rare turquoise-glazed faience amulet that is mold-formed to create 2 figures standing back-to-back: the phylactery deity Pataikos in his normal dwarf form, and the solar god Ra-Horakhty in an atypical dwarven presentation. Each deity stands nude with a phallus between their delineated legs, their hands each brandishing a sharpened dagger, and atop the bald or feathered heads is a double feather crown with a sun disc typically worn by the creator of the universe, Amun-Ra. Size: 0.66 L x 0.66 W x 1.95 H (1.7 cm x 1.7 cm x 5 cm), 2.69 H (6.8 cm) on included custom stand. Pataikos, often depicted as a dwarf-like deity, was associated with protection and fertility in Egyptian mythology. He was often depicted with a knife, ready to ward off evil. Ra-Horakhty, on the other hand, was a combination of the sun god Ra and the sky god Horus, representing the rising sun and the divine kingship. Their relationship is not extensively documented, but Pataikos' protective attributes could be seen as complementary to Ra-Horakhty's role as a solar deity guiding and illuminating the world.
