Descripción : African Dan peoples mask, carved from a single piece of wood, face of the mask is stained while the inside shows the true color of the wood. Incised almost scar like designs on the forehead, cheeks and chin. Dan masks are used for protection and as a channel for communication with the spirit world. Size 9 1/2 H x 5 1/4 W Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnograpic and fine art.
